prora.allinclusive
establishes a living and working platform for students in the artistic
and creative field which will be temporarily installed in the vast debris
of Prora. For the period of one month an international and interdisciplinary
work camp will be set up - and deal with specifics of this unique environment
in an artistic manner.
The remains of the former KdF bath Prora on the Rügen Island represent
a fragment of German history. Planned out by the German Nazis to be a
gigantic holiday resort in the course of Hitlers propaganda program “Kraft
durch Freude” (power through happiness), its construction was never
finished but stopped when the war started.
After World War Two the impressive ruin was restricted area and served
as barracks for the East German Army. Until today Prora appears as an
alien structure in the landscape of the island.
Proras history and vastness, its structure and its changing purposes,
visons of re-usage and destruction and its perception by the locals are
but a few of the substantial impulses for prora.allinclusive.
The forum prora.allinclusive will be the basis on which a fundamental
redefinition of a historic site is taken on as a challenge and a change
in the general perception of Prora can develop.
prora.allinclusive is tied to the tradition of the pragmatic
use of empty spaces by artists. The participants will sketch and try out
new ways of living, working, studying, creating and exhibiting.
prora.allinclusive creates an artistic think tank, where living
and working are closer connected than normally. The rough conditions found,
provide the common ground for an intense discourse as well as the development
and realisation of both individual and mutual ideas. |
